Senior students have had their first taste of theatre in the Allen Centre with our Christmas production

of this famous, thought-provoking fairytale, The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen.

Amidst theatrical conventions of costumes, sets, lights and music, these students created a powerful,

haunting illusion which brought many in our audiences to tears.

Capturing the magic of a fairytale through performance is extremely challenging.

When this magic is captured by children its power has the potential to touch our hearts – and this it did.

The Grandmother took the girl and they flew in brightness

and in joy so high, so very high, where there was neither

cold, nor hunger, nor anxiety - they were with God.

DSC05465.JPG

The cold continued through the night. Eventually morning

came and light filtered over the cold hard snow....

Underneath the street lamp lay the little girl. She was

smiling, frozen to death on the Eve before Christmas.

DSC05475.JPG

The people in the street saw a little girl who was cold and

dead....

DSC05482.JPG

...They did not know the beautiful things she had seen.

No one dreamed of the splendour in which, with her

Grandmother she had entered the joy of a new year.
