The Allen Centre for Information and the Arts:

Learning, innovation, creativity and challenge

school_vision.jpg
The Allen Centre is a central part of the learning programme at Outram School.
It offers a programme of extension, challenge and engagement that extends into all
aspects of the school programme. It also houses a large Library collection.

A central part the School Vision is to provide opportunities for children to experience
things outside their personal square. The Allen Centre acknowledges and celebrates those
who experience, dream and think about the world in different ways.

Our aim is to light the spark of imagination and possibility in children, as well as to feed their
passion for discovery and learning.

The Allen Centre Vision Links programme is specifically designed with this thinking in mind.
Opportunities are customized for a range of learning styles through a lively programme which
includes workshops and interactive displays .

Ian William Allen

The Allen Centre

" Ian William Allen, to whose memory this building is dedicated, was a farmer in the Hawkes Bay region.
His interest was in Hereford cattle and Romney sheep. He was a diligent and hard working man and at his
death left a charitable trust, to be administered at the discretion of his family and trustees.

His family consisted of his wife, a son and two daughters. His grandson and three grand-daughters have all
attended Outram School. The family was impressed with the standard of education and were pleased to be
of financial assistance in the erection of The Allen Centre.

Ian Allen had a real interest in children and for years transported many children to Sunday School. No doubt,
the Bible stories they heard have continued to impact their lives into adulthood.

We look to the future and are confident that pupils of Outram School will greatly benefit from the wonderful
collection of books and the exciting and stimulating opportunities provided in The Allen Centre for Information
and the Arts."
