Artist Georgia O'Keeffe

Georgia was born in America over 100 years ago.

She is one of America's most famous painters.

She loved to paint flowers, mountains, seashells and BONES!

She used clear, bright colours and simple shapes.

Can you identify the bone with the big hole in it....?

Georgia LOVED the clear blue skies and the deserts in New Mexico.

This is what she wrote:

" In the evening I go up in the desert where you can see the world

all around - far away...

To me the animal bones are as beautiful as anything I know.

Even though the desert is vast and empty, the bones make it

seem keenly alive...."

In some of Georgia's pictures, things look near and far away, both at the same.

Try the jigsaw - the huge deer skull seems to float in the sky - can you see - it is just resting on

the mountains as well? The deer antlers look a little bit like the mountain peaks...

This painting is called From the Faraway, Nearby.

Wiki-Watchers!

I have been given lots of bones!

Working out which animal a bone belongs

to is like solving a mystery...

A bone detective has a special

(and very long!)name...

a ZOOARCHAEOLOGIST

Say it like this: zoh-oh-ark-ay-ol-oh-jist

Become a Bone Detective...

Animals with backbones are called vertebrates.

Birds, bears, whales, frogs, humans, ferrets, bats, crocodile, elephants....... (can you think of more?)

All vertebrates have similar bones.

Because of the way each animal lives, their bones are different shapes and sizes.

is not a sheep skull and a dolphin's skull

is not a bird's?

Any bones to spare?

We are collecting bones in The Allen Centre.

Perhaps we'll be able to build a cow!

Don't bring your own bones

or you'll turn into a puddle!

Bones

"Said Mr Smith, I really cannot

Tell you, Dr Jones -

The most peculiar pain I'm in -

I think it's in my bones."

Said Dr. Jones, "Oh Mr Smith,

That's nothing. Without doubt

We have a simple cure for that,

It is to take them out"

He laid forthwith poor Mr Smith

Close-clamped upon the table,

And cold as stone, took out his bones

As fast as he was able.

Smith said,"Thank you, thank you, thank you,"

And wished him a good-day,

And with his parcel 'neath his arm

He slowly moved away.
