Cut a single flax leaf...

Fold it in half...

Push your fingernail through both sides
of the leaf and tear off the tough midrib...

The leaf ends up split in two...

Soften the flax by running the blunt edge
of a knife or scissors underneath both halves
of the split leaf... this removes some of the
moisture and stops the leaves shrinking as
they dry...

Fold one strip behind the other strip...

Fold the second strip down behind the first
strip....

Fold the first strip behind the second strip
and bring it to the front....

Continue to fold the two strips behind and
then infront of each other...

A spiral will begin to form....

Continue folding...

...folding....

...until you reach the narrow ends.
